Why do YOU need a Blackberry phone?

I don’t understand the fascination behind the blackberry phones, or for that matter smart phones. My wife had been behind me to buy one since more than a year now. Earlier I had a Motorola, which sufficed all my requirements. It had all the features a blackberry had, in fact even more. When I retired that phone, I bought a Samsung Corby. Even that is a good phone.

Few weeks back, my wife said she wanted to buy a blackberry. She already has a Nokia phone costlier than some of the blackberry models. I told her that her profile did not demand responding to emails on the move. Moreover the office was not offering her the services. So she had no use of the blackberry device. To which she replied that every one had a blackberry in the office. I asked her how many of the had actually configured emails and were using the costly ‘on the move’ services, she didn’t know. Probably even the guys using the phones didn’t know it.

That is not all. Some of my colleagues use smart phones, not all from blackberry, just to boast it. Most of them don’t use the blackberry services. Very few of them have subscribed for GPRS. Then why the hell do they need a blackberry?

Man! I dont understand this idiotic fascination. The new Vodafone ad promoting the blackberry phones to non business users is absolutely spot on. The business guys are shown surprised at looking the youngsters and the non important people using the smart phone. Spot On!

  1. The simple reason….because I can buy it. Ok, the truth is to receive mails and updates on the move. Currently I am saving for a smart phone out of my pocket money.
    Though I think as a business phone the communicator series of Nokia is better.

  2. Blackberry lijiye phir samjahiye.. Addiction kya cheez hai…
    BB truly is amazing & unparallel
    BTW, checking mails is not that expensive considering you get a pack of unlimited internet usage @ 799

  3. The only good thing about a BB is the BB Messenger. But, more than doing a good job it’s creating a nuisance. People keep “BBM-ing” (the new in thing) all the time. It’s like;
    1. You’re available to everyone & anyone present on your BB, all the time.
    2. You’re texting (BBM-ing), even at the dinner table (Usually, family time)
    3. You’re on talking to people, when there is nothing constructive to discuss either, you end up “Bitching”.

    Anyway, no hard feelings to the people using the Smart Phone!

  4. Hehehe….i just changed my sony ericsson to samsung guru ;). I dont think its so important to have a smart phone. The main problem with these phone are they get slow after some time and the basic functions dont work good. I just changed my phone due to same reasons. Due to virus, it use to call or send blank sms to first person automatically. i had to save first name as AAAAA with no number. Finally i shifted to basic phone and i am enjoying it. And emails???? Who cares 😉

  5. I recently became member of the crazed BB owners group. And my reason would be, because I like the phone.

    I am sure there are phones much better and much more feasible for me than the one I newly own. But there’s no accounting for the attraction value.

    Frankly I don’t even have a data plan, so no emails on the move or BBM, etc.

    Moreover this phone was given to me under some bank scheme at half price, so yeah why not ;)!
