The Questions SENA can not answer

I was watching a talk show on a leading news channel few days back. They were discussing the hottest controversial topic and the subsequent back lash… ‘Whether Paki players be allowed to play in the IPL.’ The participants were a spokesperson for Shiv Sena, Niranjan Shah from BCCI and one Pro-Cricket person. I’m diplomatically naming the person as I dont know his name. Basically he was a person supporting the cricketing ties with Pakistan. Anyway, without beating around the bushes much, I’ll come to the point straight away.

Shiv Sena is basically opposing the cricketing ties with Pakistan. You all know why. So they have been targeting every one who is pro-cricket by labling them as pro-Pakistan.  So here are the questions they could not answer and will never be able to answer ever-

  • Why are you mixing Cricket and politics? (Sena’s Answer: We can not tolerate the Pakistani players coming to our motherland, playing with our players and earning huge money while their brothers (countrymen) are indulging in the terrorism.)
  • Let us not mix politics and sports. What have the cricketers got to do with the terrorism? (Sena’s Answer: They are all the same. First their government should stop spreading terrorism and then talk about sports. Why should we pay lacs of rupees to them and fund their terrorist activities?)
  • There is a concert for peace going on in India (named Aman ki Asha) many artiste from across the border have performed and many more will be doing so in the near future. We have Pakistani artiste who found permanent livelihood here in Mumbai and Bollywood (Adnan Sami, Atif Aslam, The fateh Ali Khans are the latest ones). Have you thought of fighting them and preventing them from performing in India as well? (Sena’s Answer: We are not against any artiste, sportsmen or a person in particular. But after what they have done against us, I think it is our moral duty to prevent them from entering the Indian territory. This is a cause for national interest and concern. And every Indian who is even little bit patriotic will surely second our view. Pakistani players should not be allowed. Thats it!)
  • Banning Pakistani cricketers from IPL is a cause of national concern and interest for you? How surprising is that? Dont you think you should leave the politics and the real national concerns such as terrorism and security to the current government? (Sena’s Answer: Yes this is a cause for national interest and concern. And every Indian who is even little bit patriotic will surely second our view. Pakistani players should not be allowed. You all will agree and we will fight till our last breath to stop the cricketers from playing in India)
  • Why do you think you can decide and make policies on behalf of the Indian people? Let the government do its job. And if you are so concerned about the problem of terrorism and the threat from the neighbouring nation, why dont you send your people to the borders and help the military cope with the real problem? It will at least be better than burning effigies, digging pitches and banning cricketers. (Sena’s answer: As I said, this is a cause of national concern for us. Whether you agree or not. We will not allow the Pakistani cricketers to enter our motherland. As for allowing the government to make policies, the current government is useless and scared of the Pakistanis. We will show them the real thing when we come to the power.)

Let me write a disclaimer here. The above questions answers are not the exact ones. The language and the content may be different. But the essence and the meaning was the same. Rest, you all are free to make assumptions, write scathing remarks and throw eggs at me. Bring them on!    🙂

  1. Hey Mayur,

If I was the sena spokesperson I would use the best defense for all questions in this world – answer the question with a question. e.g

Q Why are you mixing Cricket and politics
A Do you think it is impossible to mix cricket and politics ?

Q Have you thought of fighting them and preventing them from performing in India as well?
A Why should we not think of fighting them ….

Q Dont you think you should leave the politics and the real national concerns such as terrorism and security to the current government
A How can we leave politics and real national concerns ……to current government

Q Why do you think you can decide and make policies on behalf of the Indian people
A Can Indian people (including me) not decide policies for themselves?

Then it depends on how persistent the media guys are, otherwise it is a lost cause.

  2. Mayur, Quite a nice post!
I am patriotic ,but i am not aganist pakistanies playing here as long as they dont humilate or abuse India for all mis happenings for their team.

Mixing politics with sports is not a good thing to do!

PS: I started writing love stories with you as inspiration, so i need your please check my blog:)

  3. @Rishi: Counter questions is a shrewd way of getting around the embarrassment of actually not having any answers to give. You have actually proven my point. Shiv Sena indeed does not have any answers. They will continue to engage themselves in the divisive politics and idiotic agendas in a bid to win the votes of the Marathi Manoos. But the common man has learnt his lessons. No wonder he has preferred an inefficient and subdued government over the more radical, violent and 200% biased government.

  4. i dont understand a simple fact. Why is it that a few group of people taken as mesaaighs of a country?
Frankly sepaking i have Pakistani friends and they are as normal as what Indian frinds of mine are. I am not supporting any country, please mind it. As we faced Terrorism by a group, even they are facing the ill effects by even bigger group. Even they are aware of what it feels like loosing a family member. Why do we always have to be pessimistic about others and their thoughts??

I hate all Senas for this reason. I dotn like my own state people trying to divide my own state into two. Similary I dotn liek any one who comes in way of peace.

SHiv Sena just wanted to make a point that they represetn whole people and they dont want Pakis in, thats it. Thats absurd as it sounds as when they say they wotn allow Biharis. I realyl dotn know how many INDIANs/Maharastrinas echo them in these two cases.
    Surely I wont

  5. Dear readers,

Slightly different perspective at the entire discussion and sequence of events that led to the discussion among the seemingly intelligent people ( I am not discounting myself )

Starting with a disclaimer, I mean no disrespect to any individual or any political party here. Just thought of sharing my thoughts. This need not be a truth and just a wild imagination.

Look back at the recent sequence of events related to King Khan. Losing ground dangerously in India ( his recent movies have gone unnoticed ) The reason, pretty obvious, is that the generation that made his formula movies blockbusters now find only the little time to take their kids to watch “Avatar”. They have enough fantasized about having two pretty girls on either sides and have marvelled at King Khan’s ability to do so effectively.

The result, pretty obvious, first detention at some airport in the US, buying space on the moon ( SRK is bigger than anyone else in Indian film / media industry, isn’t it ? ), IPL controversy which dangerously coincides with him ringing the bell at NASDAQ ( SRK is the most successful and popular Indian after Narayan Murthy, is he not ? )
And hasn’t he achived his objective, definitely yes. See you and I are talking about him.

Let’s talk about Sena now. Their birth and existence merely depends on the issues that they have raised. After losing ground to their own offshoot ( equally useless ), isn’t it important for them to remain the news? ( Javed Miyandad issue unfortunately slipped out of their mind which later backfired )
You and I know it well that it’s not the cause that might fetch them the power but the issues that raise are commonly mistaken for their ideologies ( which are non-existent ) to get them the success. This might even help them. Unfortunately 80% of the voter population belongs to that stratum of the society which doesn’t know what’s right and wrong for them.

I guess, we have intelligent readers to draw conclusion from the same.
Again, this might just be a wild imagination but worth sharing with Madhur Bhandarkar for him new movie….

  6. Yes I have deliberately chosen that name to reply to the comment by Bruce. Shah Rukh khan is very popular already. So he does not need cheap publicity to come in news. Yes his movies might not have been hit in recent times. But you cant say he is not good at all. It is probably his bad phase. But looking at the current state of Sivsena, I thnk they need publicity and support and not SRK. YOu all will agree.

Moreover I think every person as a free citizen of India has rights to publicly express his views. I can say I have sympathy with Pakistan. Why not? They are just like us. Durga (above) said right. Even they are trouble by terrorism from Taliban. I think lets not mix cricket and politics.

Anyway, I’m not an admirer of both of them. I’m only pointing out the stupidness of the debate.
